The Astrology of the World Cup, UK to Win

As an Irish native, let’s also say that I’ve been taught to profoundly distrust England for its historically long and brutal oppression of my people. And yes, if a war broke out tomorrow between these two nations, I would fight with my Irish brothers and sisters to the end. But war is unlikely, and, besides, I can’t really deny my feelings any longer: I’ve always liked England...and I always will.

Astrocartographically, my lines for Mercury (communication), Moon (emotion), and Sun (visibility) run through the country. That’s a lot of cosmic energy (if you want to learn more about astrocartography/locational astrology, check my app or my book). This astrocartographic power might help explain why London is by far my favorite city, why my publisher is there, and, unlike many of my friends who never leave Dalston or Chelsea, why I enjoy West, East, North, and South London with equal vigor.

But it’s not just London that I connect with. It’s also Leeds, Manchester, Houghton Festival, Hull, even Middlesbrough. And not just those towns and cities, but something deeper: the hedgerows, haystacks, and pheasants; the Thames’ widening presence; the stillness of fast-shadowed wheat fields; and then, past the poppies bluish neutral distance, the sea’s unfenced existence, embroidered by an empty autumn beach——facing the Sun, untalkative, out of reach.

So, this is all to say: no need to hate on my oppressor. And, moreover, I think England is going to win the World Cup.

But it’s not just personal preference dictating my belief in England’s chances. No, no. The Stars also seem clearly aligned with this team of destiny. Before going into the analysis of my France/England Final prediction, however, let’s discuss my methodology for determining this outcome.

I’m adjusting some variables this round. I will keep one of the base layers used in the Quarterfinals methodology: each team’s star player/s transits. I am also looking at each national team’s birthchart for the Final, I’m running historical recurrence charts(comparing this final’s chart directly against the last time a team actually won the Cup), solar returns and transits for the matches for each team’s star player/s and coaches, and each nation’s astrocartography lines.

All that said, I’m predicting England vs. France (which implies, of course, Spain and Argentina have the weaker charts. For the sake of length, I will not be including my Semis analysis here).

ENGLAND’S CASE

1) Star player/s:

Jude Bellingham who at a mere 23 years old is experiencing his highly auspicious Jupiter return (every 12 years, luck-giver Jupiter comes home in the birth chart. It’s a very powerful year-long transit, which is currently impacting this handsome super star footballer). Moreover, his solar return chart started on the exact day his Jupiter return began, June 29th. Doubly powerful. Jupiter brings glory. Sun brings visibility. The fact that these two planets are so auspiciously placed on the same day for Jude indicates success and recognition, both of which are carrying him through this run.

Harry Kane: So much winning testimony here. His natal Jupiter in Libra is conjunct the rising sign of the final match itself. His Sun sits at 5° Leo — transiting Jupiter will be sitting right on top of it during the final, alongside a perfect sextile from Uranus in Gemini and Neptune in Leo, plus an opposition from Pluto in Aquarius and that same wave is hitting his Moon in Sagittarius too. Jupiter on the Sun is textbook laurel-and-glory testimony.

2. Coaching

Thomas Tuchel’s solar return I also ran his solar return for the current year (2025–26, running to his birthday at the end of August). It has Jupiter at 17° Cancer baked into it. On July 19th, the final, transiting Mercury sits right on top of that solar return Jupiter, and Mercury-Jupiter is something to celebrate on its own. But what I really love: transiting Jupiter on July 19th also sits on top of his solar return Venus. That combination reads as celebration, not sadness. This is a man whose whole year has kind of been building toward this.

Moreover, his birthday this year falls on an eclipse which is rare. There are only about four days a year where an eclipse lands at all, and this year, one of them happens to be his birthday. Eclipses work by taking something that was obscured and suddenly making it visible again. I can’t think of a more fitting symbol than that for England finally coming back into the light after sixty years in the dark.

3. Astrocartography

England’s own astrocartography has a Jupiter line running through the East coast of the U.S. A solid testimony for success on its own, and especially notable given the nation’s chart is also in its own Jupiter return right now.

Jude’s solar return this year carries a perfect Jupiter-sextile-Mars aspect, and — because Jupiter changed signs on his actual birthday — his solar return has Jupiter sitting right at 0° Leo, baked directly into the chart for his “Jupiter birthday.” That’s shining testimony of a person or nation having a blessed year. For comparison: Freddie Mercury had a strikingly similar transit around his first performance with Queen — his own Jupiter return, landing right as things took off. That kind of placement tends to signal greatness, not just a good week.

4. Historical Recurrence

I ran the chart for England’s last World Cup win (July 30th, 1966, kickoff 3pm, Wembley Stadium, 17° Scorpio rising, with Neptune sitting right on the Ascendant).

Then I ran the chart for this year’s final.

You cannot make this s*** up: it’s the exact same rising degree. 17° Scorpio, sixty years apart. If there was ever a recurrence of greatness, this is it. There are 360 degrees in the Zodiac. And the recurrences keep stacking once you look closer. In 1966, the Moon was in a cardinal sign, Capricorn, applying to trine Uranus. This year, the Moon is in Libra, also cardinal, also trining Uranus, just relocated to Gemini instead. Same pattern, different address.

In 1966, transiting Jupiter was in Cancer. This year, Jupiter only just shifted into Leo on June 29th — but that Cancer degree hasn’t gone anywhere: it’s sitting right on top of England’s natal Moon (in Cancer), and transiting Mercury lands there too on the day of the final.

And one more: in 1966, Neptune was rising. This year, Neptune is setting. Both times, Neptune is angular in the chart. Neptune angular is the dream and this team is literally called the Three Lions. You want dream energy on the axis of a chart called “the dream,” that’s it.

Which brings me to the part I can’t get past: Jupiter (luck, expansion, glory) is in Leo. The Lion. For a team called the Three Lions. And it’s not an abstract, whole-nation thing either. England’s two actual star players, Jude and Kane, are both sitting on significant Jupiter-in-Leo transits of their own right now, at the exact moment the sign itself is carrying the astrological weight of the tournament. On top of that, the UK’s natal Jupiter is also in Leo, meaning this is their one year in twelve of pure Jupiter luck.

One more connection I don’t want to bury: the Moon degree at the final match is 7° Libra, which is England’s Natal rising sign and degree. That’s about as clear a piece of connecting testimony as you can get.

Sixty years later, and the sky is basically rhyming with itself.

FRANCE’S CASE

1. Star Player

Mbappé’s transits are strong in general (his natal is amazing), but he has some peskiness. For one, he’s also in the middle of his Saturn return, which tends to run more challenging than triumphant, and he’s sitting on his own Saturn line in New York right now (Uranus is there too). I just don’t see the same clean victory transits I’m seeing in England’s star players. His solar return doesn’t help the case either: Venus, the lord of his year, is combust and sitting in the 8th House. Not a standout-year signature.

2. Coaching

Didier Deschamps has very strong transits, comparable to England’s coach. His Moon sits at 3° Leo, and transiting Jupiter lands right on top of it on the day of the final. His Venus is also going to sit close to the rising degree of the final match, indicating a strong signature. Along with Mbappe, though, he’s also having his own Saturn return too, which brings challenges, which might not be surmountable.

3. Astrocartography

Unlike England with an expansive and glorious Jupiter line running through New York (where the finals will be held), France has a dour Saturn line running through the East coast of America. Astrocartographically, not nearly as strong a signal. Saturn brings loss, Jupiter gains. Based on this signature alone, I’d be hesitant about France’s chances.

4. Historical Recurrence

France’s last win was July 15th, 2018, in Moscow, 6pm kickoff. I cast that chart and ran it against this year’s final: no significant link-up. Rising degree was 10° Sagittarius, and none of the angles from 2018 are syncing with the significant degrees showing up this year. Nothing like England’s 17°-Scorpio-sixty-years-apart moment.

Based on all this, I have to say England has the better astrology. But, where France does have something real: their natal chart against the final’s chart shows a strong link-up. Their Sun is conjunct the Moon of the final match. That’s similar testimony to what England has, where England’s rising sign connects into that same Moon. Incredibly strong, and on its own it says they’re in the final.

But their natal Moon is being transited by Saturn in Aries right now. Not a good aspect. Deflating. There are other decent aspects working for them too, like Uranus transiting their natal Mars, and Venus sitting in the same sign as their natal Venus, though not as closely connected. So: strong aspects, but not as strong as England’s.

Despite all this grim Saturn energy, France’s own solar return on their national chart is super strong. Jupiter sits right on the Ascendant, which is about as clear a winning sign as I know how to read. So this could be close, and if France wins, I wouldn’t be completely shocked. If Argentina somehow gets past England, France is winning this outright, no question. I just think England is an extremely formidable opponent this year., with formidable astrology.
